The Official Review
Schooner's Pub is a hidden gem nestled up in the NW. Operated by owner 'Jim' for the past 18 years, Schooner's claims to have been one of the first pubs in Calgary to use coarse sea salt rather than the normal salt on their Salt & Pepper wings. Jim states that "the normal salt just seems to dissolve with the heat when you put it on, but if you use the sea salt, it stays on the wing or a better taste.". Whatever you prefer, they're worth checking out along with the Chili Lime wings, which we devoured in no time. The basic Hot Wings were good and saucy and each basket had a great supply of dip if you're the dippin' type, sliced fresh carrots and a lemon-water finger bowl.

Schooner's has expanded over the years from a restaurant and lounge to a great neighborhood pub that gets a steady flow of local customers from the surrounding area. They offer plenty of room and the normal pub ambience with a touch of Maritimer flavor thrown in (even though Jim is a native Calgarian). From pool to games and constant sports on the screens, you can easily piss away an entire Friday evening here.

Schooner's also offers 10 VLT's, big screen HDTV with tableside audio boxes allow you to kick back and watch the games you want to see.

The real gem of Schooner's though is the wings for sure. With a ton of tasty sauces and some of the biggest wings you'll find anywhere, it doesn't take too many get good and filled up. The solid selection of beers and drink specials to wash it all down sweetened the deal.
